Splicing and its various usages

Splicing is a rigging technique used to perform various operations on a textile or wire rope. It can be used to make loops, splices, and junctions between different slings and to create estropes. Before opening the strands, it is advisable to tie them up to make the task easier. Although splicing is still made, it is often replaced by sleeving on a hydraulic press for practical reasons, particularly with steel wire ropes. Splicing can be performed on natural and synthetic ropes, as well as on steel wire ropes, although the technique differs according to the material to be spliced.
